Building at the Speed of Medical Innovation

AVENTURA, FL., November 17, 2018. RAD Technology Medical Systems, a design-build development company specializing in healthcare facilities makes available their newest white paper “Building at the Speed of Medical Innovation™”.

The white paper discusses the idea of disruptive technology and societies challenge to adapt. It focuses on the theory that new technology is emerging every 5-7 years that makes the world feel “uncomfortably changed”. There is currently a gap between changing technology and our ability to transition as quickly.

The white paper dives into this situation and the impact it is having on the healthcare construction industry. Building facilities for life-cycles of 30 plus years is no longer a viable solution for our ever-changing medical technology, but with modular construction and RAD’s leasing model, there is a better way. Why spend years constructing a facility to house medical equipment when both may be obsolete in 5-7 years, when you can lease a custom facility built in less than half the time and can be updated and/or replaced easily to accommodate the next new technology.
“If accelerating technology has already passed our ability to adapt, says John Lefkus, President of RAD, then surely it has outgrown the facilities that inhibit them. New methods must be used to adapt faster.” Capital procurement models have also become antiquated with this acceleration of medical technology. It’s time to start Building at the Speed of Medical Innovation™.

The full version of the White Paper is available on the RAD Technology website.

RAD Technology Medical Systems Establishes Alliance with Rider Levett Bucknall in UK

AVENTURA, Florida, September 18, 2018. RAD Technology Medical Systems (RAD) is pleased to announce their engagement with independent construction, property and management consultant Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) in London, UK. RAD has entered into agreement with RLB UK to provide advisory and consultancy services for their patented modular healthcare solutions throughout the United Kingdom.

RAD is a leader in modular healthcare development based on their innovative approaches to sophisticated medical therapeutic, diagnostic and surgical facilities including Cancer Radiotherapy, Chemotherapy and Surgical Sterilization.  RAD provides two radiotherapy bunker solutions, a “Temporary Relocatable Vault” (TRV) complete with Linear Accelerator capable of being operational and achieving “beam-on” within 7-days of delivery to site.  The interim or permanent bunker solution (RAD PRO), significantly reduces the programme for delivery of the facility, while also opening alternative funding options.  RAD’s unique solutions allow for paradigm breaking “rental” solutions for both bunker and linear accelerator meaning Cancer Centres can maintain capacity through otherwise disruptive and prolonged upgrade and replacement programmes. RAD offers Proton solutions in addition to the other therapeutic services.

Healthcare Partner Kyle McClelland will manage the relationship with RAD and is uniquely qualified with private practice experience and a 12-year tenure within the NHS as a Project Director. RAD President John Lefkus stated, “The RLB Healthcare team and Kyle in particular, create a harmonious combination of corporate expertise and personal knowledge of the market and our company.  RAD met Kyle over 14 years ago as a client for the first European PRO bunker deployed. His knowledge of our patented technology and his understanding of our client base, combined with RLB’s significant healthcare experience, will accelerate the relationship and generate project opportunities.”

RAD and RLB are already working on their first projects together and have several others in the pipeline. Kyle commented, “RLB is extremely pleased to be working with RAD to bring the benefits of their unique and highly innovative products to UK Cancer Centres.  RLB has assembled a highly experienced design supply chain, supporting our own extensive expertise in project management; cost management; health strategy and planning; data modelling, analysis, process simulation and business case authorship thereby enabling RAD to provide holistic UK compliant solutions.”

RAD has a family of international patents and an experienced global team whom clients can rely on. With the dramatic changes in medicine, RAD believes Building at the Speed of Medical Innovation™ will help both patients and manufacturers of state-of-the-art therapeutic solutions benefit from the timely and flexible modular approach RAD offers. RAD announced its European manufacturing resource, DMDmodular just earlier this month in Krakow, Poland. With facilities and medical equipment available for lease, private providers can expand without capital demands and government providers can obtain new services without debt impairment.

RAD Technology Medical Systems Purchases Two ViewRay MRIdian Linac Systems

AVENTURA, Fla., March 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — RAD Technology Medical Systems (RAD) announced today its purchase of two MRI-guided linear accelerators from ViewRay. This purchase is a milestone for ViewRay as the two machines will be the 50th and 51st units sold.

RAD purchased two of ViewRay’s newest linear accelerator-based system, the MRIdian Linac. This cutting-edge accelerator incorporates MRI visualization, offering real-time imaging that defines the targeted tumor from the surrounding soft tissue and other critical organs allowing for more precise radiation treatment and daily patient treatment plan modification.

RAD plans to install the MRIdian Linac systems at its numerous institutional clients, many in academia.  New radiotherapy facilities designed and constructed by RAD for institutional clients are also candidates.

“We purchase equipment based on demand from our clients and have received several requests for the new MRIdian technology,” said John Lefkus, president of RAD. “We are pleased our purchase coordinates with ViewRay’s record sales achievement. We anticipate these two MRIdian purchases are the first of many.”

“RAD provides unique leasing options that enable healthcare facilities to secure state-of-the-art technology, like MRIdian Linac, without lengthy capital procurement challenges,” said Chris Raanes, president and chief executive officer of ViewRay. “We are excited that our new partnership with RAD brings us to the milestone of 50 MRIdian systems ordered, and we look forward to working with them to bring the benefits of MR image-guided therapy to more centers around the country.”

MRIdian Linac enables a fundamental change from conventional radiotherapy by using diagnostic-quality MR imaging and enabling daily on-table treatment plan adaptation. MRIdian Linac also uniquely allows for continuous MR imaging to automatically control beam delivery to account for subtle anatomical changes that may occur during treatment.

RAD specializes in healthcare facilities, specifically with the deployment of temporary, permanent and interim specialty health practices including radiotherapy, medical oncology, sterilization and   clinics. RAD uses its patented technology and accelerated modular construction methods to build facilities quickly and efficiently for customers. By eliminating months and years of construction, RAD accelerates the clinical operations, enabling patient treatment and generating millions in customer revenue.

RAD offers unique lease financing options that avoid capital deployment or debt impairment.  Purchasing the MRIdian accelerators from ViewRay allows RAD to provide its institutional customers with a single lease system that includes the facility, sitework and accelerator without capital or debt impairment.

“We are excited to be working with ViewRay in this capacity,” said John Lefkus. “We build at the speed of medical innovation and ViewRay is a leader in the MRI-guided accelerator market.”

Palomar Health Partners with RAD Technology Medical Systems to Construct a New Crisis Stabilization Unit

AVENTURA, Fla., November 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Palomar Health, an Escondido, California-based health care district, and RAD Technology Medical Systems (RAD), a design-build construction company specializing in patented modular building systems for the healthcare industry, announced plans to construct a standalone crisis stabilization unit (CSU) on the Palomar Medical Center Escondido campus. When completed, this unit will provide short-term care for patients experiencing an acute psychiatric and/or substance use crisis.

For the last 10 years, hospitalization for mental or substance use disorders has increased at a faster rate than any other clinical disease category for hospital admission. This makes the CSU critical to serving the needs of San Diego North County Inland communities by freeing Emergency Department beds, stabilizing mental health patients in a less restrictive environment and improving community safety.

“This program puts patients first,” said Sheila Brown, Palomar Health Vice President of Continuum of Care. “We go to great lengths to make sure our patients are treated by the highest quality behavioral health professionals, in a stress-reducing atmosphere in a timely manner.”

Palomar Health currently operates an eight-bed CSU at its downtown Escondido campus, which is in the process of being sold. When the new facility is completed, it will consist of 6,000 square feet and include capacity for 16 patient treatment areas, patient showers, a check-in area, storage for belongings, a nurses’ station, medication storage and an outdoor lounge. Groundbreaking is scheduled for early spring 2018, and the CSU will open and treat patients by the summer 2018.

RAD’s modular technology and method of project delivery and time savings was exactly what the project needed.

RAD worked collaboratively with the Palomar Health team and San Diego based architecture firm Mascari Warner Architects, to design a customized two-story CSU facility with a curved floor plan. This maximizes the available space on the small site to ensure the entire program will fit into one facility. The floor plan of the building is designed to provide an efficient and secure patient experience.

“This is our latest clinical facility and our first crisis stabilization project,” said John Lefkus, RAD’s President. “We are excited that our modular technology and financial model will allow Palomar Health to enter a new market.”

Univeristy of Michigan Medical Center Installs Healing Portals™

AVENTURA, Fla., November 7, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — RAD Technology Medical Systems announced today that they have installed Healing Portals™ at the University of Michigan Cancer Center in Ann Arbor, after installing four at UCSD.  The University of Michigan Cancer Center first worked with RAD in 2013 when they installed a RAD PRO vault and clinic next to their existing facility to treat patients during the upgrading of the equipment in their existing vaults.

“The RAD PRO Vault and clinic has been a wonderful addition to our facility,” said Kathy Lash, Director of Operations at the University of Michigan for Radiation Oncology. Working with RAD on the facility was one of the most fulfilling projects I’ve ever been involved with, so I jumped at the chance to work with them again and have a Healing Portal™ installed. I’m really looking forward to hearing the patients’ feedback,” Lash added.

Healing Portals™ are artwork for vault doors. Photographic images are installed, turning the radiotherapy treatment room doors into something beautiful or interesting to look at. RAD has worked constructing radiotherapy vaults for years and always thought something needed to be done to the large cumbersome vault doors.  This led to the creation of Healing Portals™.

The first Healing Portals™ were installed at the University of California San Diego.  Two Healing Portals™ were installed in the RAD PRO vault that is located at the Moores Cancer Center and the other two were installed in the radiotherapy suite located across the street.

“Our patients love the new Healing Portals™,” said Mary Collins, Clinical Operations Manager at UCSD Moores Cancer Center. “We’ve gotten lots of positive feedback. Many patients have commented that the Healing Portals™ make entering the treatment room less intimidating.”

The goal of Healing Portals™ is to provide a distraction for the patients while promoting calmness, relaxation and a healing environment. Healing Portals™ are not only available to cancer centers with a RAD PRO Vault or TRV, but also to any cancer center who wishes to transform their vault doors.

RAD Technology Medical Systems Provides Glendale Adventist Medical Center with Patented TRV

AVENTURA, Fla.July 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — RAD Technology Medical Systems is pleased to announce their most recent project at Glendale Adventist Medical Center in Glendale, California.  RAD Technology has provided Glendale Adventist Medical Center (GAMC), with their patented Temporary Radiotherapy Vault, or TRV.  The TRV will be on site for about 150 days while GAMC renovates their department and upgrades their existing linear accelerator.

GAMC is bringing one of the most advanced radiation therapy technologies yet developed for the treatment of cancer. The Varian TrueBeam Linear Accelerator, currently scheduled to begin service in Fall 2017, is able to destroy cancer cells with more precision and greater accuracy, and often in less time and with fewer treatments. This is the latest cancer-fighting technology available.

“We are very excited about the installation of the RAD TRV,” said Dennis Quagliani, Director of Cancer Services. “It was important for us to have this temporary facility available while we work on upgrading the cancer center so we do not have to stop or hinder patient care. It will also eliminate the need to send our patients outside of the Glendale area for daily treatments that can extend up to 5-6 weeks. The project couldn’t have been easier, as RAD Technology provided full turnkey services, handling everything from start to finish,” explains Dennis Quagliani.

In collaboration with hospital administration, RAD Technology managed the permitting, site preparation, installation of the below grade patented foundation system and electrical service connections.   Once those were in place, RAD Technology’s project team coordinated the delivery of the eight (8) modules comprising the temporary cancer center, assembled the facility in under ten (10) days and managed the remaining site work to completion.

The TRV is a comprehensive solution that arrives on site and is typically ready to make Beam in 5-7 days.  The TRV comes fully furnished with a pre-commissioned linear accelerator, reception area, waiting room, office space and restroom.

“Every project we work on is rewarding, knowing that we are facilitating our client’s move to the latest technology in the fight against cancer,” said Kenneth Wright, Director of TRV Services at RAD Technology.  Managing the complete process for the client allows them to focus on being good healthcare providers while leaving the facility and equipment challenges to RAD Technology.”

The TRV offers all the comforts of a permanent facility and is relocatable, allowing organizations to use the facility to support their upgrades at multiple locations.  RAD Technology is pleased to be able to help GAMC continue treating patients while modernizing their department and upgrading to state-of-the-art cancer care technology.
